1,662 pages of files copied from FBI Headquarters in Washington, D.C., covering J. Edgar Hoover. Files contain approximately 600 narrative pages. Files are the contents of the Official Personnel File of J. Edgar Hoover, Director of the FBI from May 10, 1924, until his death on May 2, 1972. Files date from 1916 to 1976.
Files contain: Accolades and awards bestowed upon Hoover over the years; Salary issues; Chronicling of 40 years of of rumors regarding Hoover leaving his post as director; Memos concerning sources in the Kennedy White House regarding discussion of Hoover being replaced; The will and documents dealing with resolution of the estates of Hoover and Associate Director Clyde Tolson.
Files include several memos regarding FBI agents visits, which included "vigorous interrogation" and "forcefully" presented points, made to individuals who made accusations or passed on rumor that J.
