4,296 pages of files copied from FBI Headquarters in Washington, D.C., and archived on CD-ROM covering Joseph McCarthy. Files document turmoil caused by McCarthy's accusations of Communists in the State Department, which lead the FBI to launch loyalty investigations. Accounts of appearances at McCathy hearings. Files show tension between the FBI and members of the Senate over the release of FBI "loyalty" files. FBI records contain extortion investigations and correspondence between McCarthy and J. Edgar Hoover. Files contain approximately 3870 pages of memos, letters from the public, miscellany, and newspaper articles. |
